We are renovating a house, and one of the items I really want, but can’t really justify, is a separate small fridge for drinks. I’ve priced them out online, and the one I want has a regular, new cost of $179 at Home Depot or $159 at Walmart. I know I can use the military discount for 10% off at Home Depot, and I can wait for it to go on sale. Assuming I can not find one on Craiglist, I am budgeting $140 for this purchase.
Because this is a complete splurge, and because I like a challenge, I have decided that if I am going to get this fridge, I need to earn the money using . I used to play with , and I know some people that have earned a lot of gift cards using Swagbucks. I just need to learn how to be one of those people.
First, I logged into my old account. Cha-ching…I already have 2,200 SB. If I cashed them in right now, I could receive $20 in Home Depot gift card, and I’d still have 200 SB left over. In order to earn the extra $120 gift cards, I’ll need to earn 11,800 more SB in the next 9 months. That’s 1,200 per month, or 4 per day. Is that possible? Can I do it? I have no idea, but I think I can.
To get started, I did some internet research. The best post I found was at MoneySavingMom.com: 15 Ways To Earn More Swagbucks. There are many suggestions there, some that appealed to me and some that did not. I do not want this to be a time-consuming exercise, or that defeats the purpose. I have decided to focus my earning on just two strategies: web searches (which I’m doing anyway) and coupons.
It seems like getting “random” awards from searching is the best way to rack up a small amount of points. I could install the toolbar, but I had some issues with that in the past. Instead, I’ll just try to remember to do my searches via the search engine. I did about 10 searched there this morning, and earned 10 SB. That’s two and half day’s worth!
The other option that appeals to me was to redeem grocery coupons obtained through the site. I went through the offerings and found about 10 coupons that appealed to me, one that will give me some free junk food and the rest that will save me a bit of money on things I am going to buy anyway. I did incur a small cost for the printing, but my laser printer has a pretty good price per page and so I’m OK with that.
Not part of my plan, but if you join through any of the links in this article, and use it, I get referral points, too.
I’m not going to make you crazy with daily updates, but I hope you’ll hold me accountable. I really want that fridge!
