In case you’re not on my email list:

Hi friends!

Spring is finally starting to peek out here in the mid-Atlantic. I can’t wait to get my bones warm and enjoy all the outdoors!

Did you know that DoDEA offers an online program to help CONUS mil-kids keep up with high school educational requirements even if PCS moves make it hard? It’s called the Expanded Eligibility Participation Program and it offers accredited, virtual, asynchronous classes in a huge variety of subjects, including AP classes and foreign languages. I don’t know how I have never heard about this before, but it may be a great solution for those missing credits or “my new school doesn’t offer Japanese!” situations.

Have you been keeping up with the banks and credit card companies that will extend extra benefits to military members? In addition to the best credit cards for military members based on benefits, some companies will decrease, suspend, or even refund your interest even if the law doesn’t require it. Check it out.

I recently got an email claiming that the average military family has $3k to $8k in unclaimed property due to frequent moves. I think that number sounds high, but the point is accurate: it’s hard to keep track of every single penny. So take a minute today to check out MissingMoney.com or the state databases in places you’ve lived. (I literally found something in my name when double-checking the process for this email. Cha-ching!)

My friend Joe Saul-Sehy is the host of a podcast called Stacking Benjamins. You should check it out. More importantly, there’s also a really good newsletter associated with it. I was so struck by a recent email that I asked Joe if there was a way to share it directly with my readers, and he set up a special link just for us! So go read, first of all because it’s good stuff, and second of all because he created this link and webpage specifically for y’all and I want to show my appreciation. We all know that there are going to be some analytics involved there LOL.

Thinking ahead to leaving the military? Whether you’re separating or retiring, I have a checklist for you. And one of the linked articles in my checklist is about your Legal Residence after Leaving The Military. I talk to many folks who aren’t thinking about this part of the transition process. So just put this little bit of info in your toolkit so it’s there when you need it.

Podcast interview of the month: Last week, I got to do a quick drop-in on my friend Andrew Wang’s 100th episode of the Inspired Money podcast. He gathered a bunch of previous guests to stop by and talk about various money issues. You might find something interesting!

Credit card offer of the month: I’m loving my American Express Cash Blue Preferred because it gives me 6% back on grocery purchases. And it’s free to you if you or your spouse are still serving. My refer-a-friend link can help you get a $300 bonus if you spend $3,000 in the first six months of use. Most people I know are spending $500 a month on groceries, so that’s a win-win.

Make me smarter by sending me your stories, your questions, and your big wins!
