In my never-ending-web-wanderings, I stumbled across two thoughtful programs called GreenCare for Troops and SnowCare for Troops. These programs offer free lawn care and snow removal for the families of deployed service members, for disabled or wounded veterans. These programs are organized by Project Evergreen. GreenCare for Troops receives financial support from the Toro company, and SnowCare for Troops receives financial support from BOSS Snowplows. What a way to help a military family that might need a little extra help!
These programs really speak to me because I have been that at-home spouse who struggled to keep up with lawn care and snow removal while my husband was deployed. I wish I had photos of me mowing the lawn, pregnant, with a baby in a backpack. (Don’t try this at home…it’s not really safe.) And in the great Snowmaggedon of 2009-2010, I nearly couldn’t get to the airport to pick my husband up after a year’s deployment because all the streets were covered in nearly three feet of snow. Thankfully, a landscaper neighbor plowed from my driveway to the nearest passable road. Words can’t convey how much I appreciated that kindness.
